Moth Trapping June

JUNE SUMMERY;

Not bad at all for me with 1061 moths caught and 53 new garden speices. Mid June onwards were the best nights with the 12th being top with 92 moths caught. The end of June was very warm with nightime tempetures around and above 20'c !

1st - 1 Rustic Shoulder Knot, 1 Pale Tussock, 1 Flame Shoulder, 2 Common Marbled Carpet, 3 Hart & Dart, 2 Garden Carpet.

2nd - 1 Miller, 1 Green Carpet, 1 Pebble Hook Tip, 1 Rustic shoulder Knot, 4 Hart & Dart, 1 Small Magpie, 1 Common Pug, 1 White Ermine.

3rd - 1 Buff Tip, 1 Small Dusty Wave, 12 Hart & Dart, 1 Grey Dagger, 2 Flame Shoulder, 1 Peppered Moth, 1 Minor sp.

4th - A good night with two new species -1 Green Arches and Campion. Others included; 3 Green Pug, 1 Green Carpet, 2 Common M Carpet, 1 Garden Carpet, 1 Peppered Moth, 1 Straw Dot, 17 Hart & Dart.

5th - 25 Moths in all, but all mainly one species. 19 Hart & Dart, 1 Shuttle shaped Dart, 1 Bright line brown eye, 1 Small Magpie, 3 Marbled Minor.

6th - 1 Angle Shades, 1 Buff Ermine, 1 Miller, 1 Bright line brown eye, 7 Hart & Dart.

7th - 2 White Ermine, 1 Cabbage Moth, 1 Cinnabar,1 Garden Carpet, 8 Hart & Dart.

8th - 1 White Ermine, 1 Marbled Minor, 1 Flame Shoulder, 3 Garden Carpet, 12 Hart & Dart.

9th - 41 Moths caught, including 5 new species. Barred Yellow, Small Square Spot, Silver Ground Carpet, Clouded Silver and Cream bordered Green Pea. 1st's of the year's included Large Yellow Underwing and Common Carpet.

10th - A good night with 37 Moths and one new species, Udea olivalis. Also Dark Arches, Grey Dagger, Waved Umber and 24 Hart & Dart.

11th - 27 Moths in all including, 1 Pebble Hook Tip, 1 Silver Y, 19 Hart & Dart, 1 Buff Ermine, 1 Knot Grass.

12th - The best night of the year so far with 92 Moths, new speices were; Light Arches, Mottled Beauty, Common Emerald. Other good records were; Blood Vein, 3 Dark Arches, Barred Yellow, 2 Silver Y and a Plume Moth.

13th - Eyed Hawkmoth. Others in the trap included 2 Common Wainscot, The Snout, Grey Dagger, Light & Dark Arches and 2 Mottled Beauties.

14th -37 Moths in all and 1 new species, Vapourer. Others included Peppered Moth, Common Wainscot, 2 Rustic shoulder Knot and a Double striped Pug.

15th - A good night for new species with 3. Treble Lines, Small Fan Foot and Uncertain. Other notable moths were Barred Yellow, 2 Dark Arches and Angle Shades.

16th - 42 Moth in all including my second record of Poplar Hawkmoth was in the trap this morning along with 2 Lychnis (New Species) Blood Vein, 2 Barred Yellow, Riband Wave and Mottled Beauty.

18th - 42 Moths in all, plus one new species, Dingy Shears. Others included 3 Dark Arches, 1 Angle Shades, Flame Shoulder and Buff Ermine.


19th - Three new species last night - Smoky Wainscot, Heart & Club and Phlyctaenia Coronata. Others included Riband Wave, Light Arches and Small Fan Foot.
2oth - Two new species which were quite unexpected. Beautiful Hook Tip and Lilac Beauty. Others included Common Emerald, Spectacle and Mottled Beauty.

21st - The shortest night of the year still produced three new species for me. Scarce Silver Lines, Phoenix and a Barred Straw. Others notable moths caught were Waved Umber, 3 Flame, Smoky Wainscot, Knot Grass and Spectacle.
22nd - A good night with four new species including, Shoulder striped Wainscot, Poplar Grey, Corornet and Treble Brown Spot.

23rd - An amazing night not for numbers but for quality . Privet Hawkmoth (New Speices) 1 Swallow tailed Moth (New Species) 2 Poplar Hawkmoths, 1 Buff Tip, 1 Scalloped Oak were the highlights.

24th - Another good night, with 3 new species. Lime Hawkmoth, Dot Moth and Blue bordered Carpet. Others caught were Privet Hawkmoth (different from 23rd) , Buff Ermine,Buff Tip.

25th - Two good new speices last night Drinker and Red necked Footman. Other moths included - Poplar Hawkmoth, Treble brown Spot, Scalloped Oak and Angle Shades.

26th - A bit quieter overall. One new speices Light Emerald. Others included Snout, Dot Moth and Riband Wave.
27th - 31 Moths in total with one new speices - Elephant Hawkmoth, this is one of the speices which I have always wanted to catch. Others included Blood Vien, Lackey, Poplar Grey and 3 Buff Arches.
28th - A very warm night at 20'c ! 51 Moths in total with three new speices - Green Silver Lines, Sycamore and Common Footman. Others included 2 Privet Hawkmoth, Dunbar, Vapourer, Swallow tailed Moth and Shoulder striped Wainscot.
29th - Another very warm night produced two new species for me, Scarlet Tiger and Clay. Others included 3 Swallow tailed Moth, Peppered Moth, Miller, Sycamore, 4 Scalloped Oak, 2 Lackey and Common Emerald.
30th - One new species - Small Blood Vein, others included Dingy Shears, Yellow Shell, Swallow tailed Moth and Barred Yellow.
